Will a dachshund suit my lifestyle?
Dachshund are NOT suitable for many people. Please see below infographic which will help you determine if a dachshund will suit you, your lifestyle and your living arrangements:
Do you have any dachshunds available in… / Is the dachshund advertised on Facebook still available?
All the dachshunds we currently have available are listed on our available page.
Please note that not all dogs that become available are advertised on our website / Facebook. Fortunately we are able to re-home many dachshunds through our existing database of applicants. If you would like to be considered for future adoptions, please complete our Adoption Form and we will be in touch should a suitable dog meet your individual circumstances. Please note, we only keep applications on file for 6 months.
Do you have any puppies?
We occasionally receive young dachshunds in for rehoming. If you absolutely must have a dachshund puppy, please visit www.dachshundpuppies.com.au and follow the advice on this page. PLEASE do not support backyard breeders and puppy farmers by buying from Gumtree or a Pet Shop.
Do you fly dachshunds to…?
This is decided on a case by case basis. Flying dogs can be extremely stressful and we try to avoid where possible. We do usually ask our chosen, prospective owners to have a meet and greet with the dachshund to ensure compatibility. Due to COVID 19, we are currently not flying dachshunds between states. There are too many flight cancellations and we do not want our dogs sitting on the airport tarmac.
I filled a form our x months ago but haven’t heard anything…
Applications are kept for a maximum of 6 months. Each dachshund that comes in for rehoming requires different, individual needs. If you haven’t heard from us, we’re sorry as we know it can be disappointing but it just means we haven’t had the right dachshund in for rehoming that matches your situation.
What breeder do you recommend? Where is the best place to buy a dachshund puppy?
Dachshund Rescue Australia does not recommend individual breeders. Please visit www.dachshundpuppies.com.au for a detailed guide on how to buy a healthy puppy from an ethical, registered dachshund breeder.

- Your contact number and best time(s) to call

Please note that DRA does not charge a rehoming fee or pay to buy dachshunds that require rehoming. We do charge an adoption fee to the new owners. This is to ensure that the right people come forward for your dachshund. Dachshunds are a financial commitment and we want all dachshunds to be valued family members. Adoption fees go towards veterinary care that some dachshunds require when they are rehomed, such as vaccinations, medications, de sexing, dentals and many other such operations and incidentals.
