Banks is a young Dachshund with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life. Despite a challenging start, he is now thriving in foster care and showing all the traits of a happy, inquisitive, and energetic puppy.

Banks was surrendered to Dachshund Rescue as a very unwell puppy and has since been diagnosed with megaesophagus, a lifelong condition that requires careful daily management. He is unable to safely eat or drink unless positioned upright, and he must be fed in a specialised chair and remain upright for 20–30 minutes after meals. He is also spoon-fed, and this routine will be essential for the rest of his life. Banks also requires a special prescription diet.

While his care needs are significant, Banks does not let this define him. Outside of feeding times, he enjoys life just like any other young Dachshund—he is playful, curious, affectionate, and full of energy. He will still benefit from ongoing training, structure, and guidance, as expected for a dog his age.

Ideal Home:

Banks requires a highly dedicated, experienced and patient home that understands and is fully committed to managing his condition long-term. His new family must be prepared to:

• Follow strict feeding protocols using his upright chair
• Supervise all food and water intake
• Monitor for signs of aspiration, as he is at risk of aspiration pneumonia, which will require prompt veterinary attention
• Provide consistency, routine, and ongoing training
