Peanut – 6 Years Old, Brisbane North

Peanut is a sweet, funny, and incredibly loyal little guy looking for a calm and understanding forever home. He forms strong bonds with his people and loves being wherever you are — if you’re going somewhere dog-friendly, Peanut will happily come along for the adventure.

Peanut would do best in a quieter adult home where he can be the centre of attention. While he can tolerate children, he would prefer not to live around them, especially if they are loud or get too close to him unexpectedly.

Peanut is currently on medication to help manage his anxiety. He can be wary of unfamiliar people and dogs, often barking initially when approached. However, he is not aggressive or uncontrollable, and with patience and reassurance he settles well over time. He tends to do best with calm, respectful dogs — especially other Dachshunds or older dogs that give him space. Interestingly, he is much more relaxed around other dogs when off leash at the beach.

Peanut does experience separation anxiety and becomes very distressed when separated from his chosen person. He may bark continuously if left alone in his crate and can become so anxious that he drools or soils it. Because of this, Peanut would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time, such as a retired person, someone who works from home, or a couple without children who enjoy taking their dog with them.

Like many clever Dachshunds, Peanut is very food motivated and extremely resourceful when it comes to finding snacks. Bags, benches, tables — if food is there, Peanut will try his luck! He’s also surprisingly athletic and can jump quite high.

Peanut sleeps either in his crate or curled up in bed with his humans, depending on his mood. He knows his commands well, responds beautifully to gentle guidance, and has such an endearing personality once he trusts you.

Peanut isn’t looking for a perfect home — just the right person who will love every part of him and be his best friend. In return, you’ll get a devoted little companion with so much love to give.
