Saint, 7yo, Syd NSW.

**Special Needs Saint Will Capture Your Heart!**

Life was cruising along very nicely for Saint (7yo choc dapple mini longhair) up until November last year.  He was getting ready to join his owner and partner in an exciting new life in Canada with them, however Saint suffered an IVDD incident unexpectedly and sadly now its not in his best interest to deal with the stresses of a long haul flight.  His owner is heartbroken, he has nursed Saint through the worst and we are hoping to have a special human Saint step up for this little boy and adopt him.

Saint is described as a little snuggle bug who takes a huge amount of comfort from being around his humans.  He would fit perfectly into a home where someone has a nice quiet routine, works from home or is retired.  Saint is used to having his owner at home a lot, and since his IVDD incident has become quite needy in terms of always needing to know where his humans are in the house.   Saint would not cope well with being left alone on a regular basis…possibly short amounts of time for the occasional supermarket or medical appointment may be ok though.

Saint really enjoys the simple things in life…..watching a movie with his owner, car rides he thinks are the bee’s knees, and his beautiful long tail starts to wag when he knows a chicken strip treat is on the cards.  Saint has lived harmoniously with other dogs and cats which he has been fine with.  But now unless the dog is very quiet and respectful of his boundaries, we think he would be best being on his own.

We know that its a big ask, but we are desperately hoping that there is an angel out there that has dachshund experience, and preferably experience with a special needs dog.  After his IVDD incident, Saint was nursed conservatively and has made steady progress with the fortnightly help of acupuncture and laser therapy.  He is up walking although his gait is affected and he is still weaker in his back legs.  Saint knows when he needs to go to the toilet, and mostly manages to go outside.  He has recently had keyhole surgery to have some bladder stones removed, and is currently recovering from that surgery. It is likely that Saint will require a special urinary diet such as Royal Canin to reduce the risk of on going stones.

If you have it in your heart and have the time and commitment (DRA will be with you in the background to help support his rehab requirements) to open up your home to Saint, please fill out an application and we will be in contact.

Interstate adoption is a possibility if you can potentially drive to meet him.  For more information please email [email protected]
