Hetty Melbourne

In June 2025, DRA coordinated the adoption of Bernard (previously slinky) who was relocated from Sydney
to Melbourne. Bernie is a 3 year old mini chocolate dapple. Bernard, the ‘site inspector’, gave the new digs the thumbs up and quickly formed an attachment with his humans, three resident ginger cats and the resident dog, phoebe - a German Pointer / Dane cross. Apart from his other duties as site inspector, and just being a regular dog, Bernard also assists in feeding the cats every morning. He is an amazingly calm, affectionate and inquisitive boy, who breaks hearts wherever he goes, socialising in cafes, on walks and at the beach. In October 2025, due to Phoebe being a senior dog, Bernard and the crew welcomed a second Dachshund
into their home, through DRA. Henrietta / Hetty (previously Teddy) is a 2 year old mini chocolate. Whilst Bernie and Hetty hit it off quickly at their meet and greet, it was clear that our girl had a bit of ‘Sass’ so introductions of Hetty into the household needed to be carefully coordinated, slow and safe. Separation gates, introductions on lead, designated play times, pack feeds, treats, consistency and lots of positive reinforcement helped Hetty to transition into the family and find her place in the pack. A huge thank you to DRA - then entire team, for the work they do in matching Dachshunds with suitable families and the ongoing support, advice and encouragement they provide during the rehoming process. It was so reassuring to know that I had DRA arms around me as I tackled challenges I had along the way.
We are thrilled with this family, and look forward to a cheeky photo update whenever they can. x
