Lewis – Sydney – NSW
After a first failed trial, Lewis had to go back home while we looked for a new family for him. Second time round Lewis is now one very happy dachshund/kelpie who almost immediately settled into his home where he's just gone from good to better as if he had always been there. He loves being out of the city where there's no buses or lots of cars which used to frighten him and he now gets daily peaceful walks which he really enjoys. He's got a backyard to explore with a sofa which he's claimed for himself and which he likes to lie on in the sun and observe what goes on around him when everyone is out. Lewis is loved to bits and the absolute perfect dog for his new family. (NSW)
Charlie Brown – WA
Charlie Brown is a lovely senior boy who came into DRA as his owners were moving overseas. As he was already living with a dachshund DRA placed him in a home with another dachshund called Schnitzel and it didn't take long for the boys to bond. After a much needed dental, Charlie Brown is enjoying his tummy rubs, treats and being with his new family.
Slinky – WA
During the past few months, I had lost my two long haired dachshund brothers, Toby and
Levi, to old age and I was devastated in losing them both. I contemplated getting a new
puppy and my kids teased me saying, “If you get a puppy at your age, then you better leave
some money in your will to care for the dog after you kick the bucket!”
Eventually I put my name down to adopt an existing Dachshund that needed re-homing. It
seemed that most of them lived outside of WA and could not be brought here. One person
from Dachshund Rescue rang me and said that they sometimes have senior dogs for senior
people and if one came up, they would contact me. Weeks went by and I had almost given
up hope and was resigned to having no dachshund furry friend although there seemed to be
quite a few strolling around our local parks and beaches. Then out of the blue came a phone
call to say that Slinky would be available as sadly his owner had to return to the UK to care
for his dying father and elderly mother. Of course, our answer was “yes,” and his owner
John brought Slinky for a meet and greet, and we fell instantly in love with Slinky.
He has moved in and quickly a routine was established, and he has taken to us like a duck to
water and we thoroughly enjoy him and his puppy like antics. He is happy to go in the car, is
very sociable with no aggressive manners and when we go for a walk, we often get stopped
by people who want to pat “that lovely dog.” He charms all who come to our house.
It has been a bit of change for us because Toby and Levi were more of outside dogs than
inside ones. Slinky has taken over one of our couches and from there he rules the roost! We
– Patricia my wife and I – both love him and enjoy his constant companionship.
The adoption process was smooth and the following phone calls kept us in touch with where
things were. So thankyou Dachshund Rescue for the wonderful gift of a friendly furry friend
once more. We are truly grateful and thank God for Slinky.
Fr. Jack Thomson
Lily, 12yo, QLD (Brisbane)
Lily is loving her new retirement home where she is being smothered with attention and affection by her new owners. She is quite a social little girl and loves her two short walks a day. She has enjoyed trips to the country and loves pottering around with so many new sights and smells to investigate. In their words 'she is just perfect' and we cant say how thrilled we are that Lily has found a perfect forever home.
Parker : Peregian Beach QLD
Parker is a beautiful red miniature dachshund who joined Lesley, Allan and Matt in October this year. After a short settling in period, Parker has become a very special member of their family. Parker was with his first family for over 7 years, so he was very anxious for the first few weeks. Now he is happy, eating and sleeping. Parker is their second rehomed Dachie. They have Louie, a beautiful female red who is nearly 8 year old, since 2017. Parker and Louie are learning to get along with each other. Nothing better than to sunbake together.
Bobby
Bobby came to us after his owners realised that he wasnt happy being left along for long periods during the day. He was lonely and starting to become destructive. He is loving his new home where his new owners are home more often and can spend more time with Bobby. They adore him and just cant believe that such a sweet, friendly young dog has come in through rescue. Bobby has had visits to the beach and even the backstage theatre where he was thoroughly adored by all who patted him! What a wonderful life Bobby and thankyou to Anita and her family for choosing to adopt.
Marbles (Marlie) NSW
Marbles, a double dapple, is the victim of irresponsible breeding where profit was valued more highly than her welfare. She is deaf and vision impaired with one eye having been removed. At one year old Marbles was abandoned at an emergency vet centre and was then transferred to the RSPCA. We were approached to find a
compassionate, nurturing home where Marbles could learn to be a confident and independent lass. And we did just that.
Marbles is with an extraordinary couple who have several special needs dachshunds . Marbles has been welcomed into their loving home where her needs are capably met. Marbles has been accepted fully by all members of the family and is forming a special bond with the double dapple girls. We can confidently report that Marbles has found her tribe.
Winston, Casino NSW
Winston is a lovely little boy who originally was going to be a service dog, but decided himself that maybe life around children could be a little overwhelming at times. He is now the apple of his new owners eye, and is enjoying life with his two new owners who are committed to including him in their daily lives. Winston is enjoying the constant companionship of two retirees and we have heard that he may be making a debut at their local Dachshund Meet Ups. Happy days ahead for Mr Winston!
Jack NSW
Although 9 week old Jack is a happy little dachshund and is not aware of his disability, our hearts at DRA sank when his adoption surrender arrived. Back yard breeding gone terribly wrong. Fortunately we were able to help Jack and he has been placed in a home with owners who are familiar with dachshund disabilitiies. They opened their hearts and welcomed Jack into their lives without hesitation. Jack is thriving being part of the dog pack and is learning his place in the pecking order. Jack has been renamed Dash due to being a speedy little boy who continues to surprise his owners with his ability to keep up with the others and not be left behind. Thank you to his new owners. We know that under your care, Dash will have a wonderful life full of fun and adventures. We can't wait to hear all about them!
