Coco and Doug (NSW)

With Coco and Doug still in the puppy stages at under the age of 2, we are unsure why this delightful, loving and affectionate duo have landed at DRA looking for their third home. As Coco was not spayed maybe she was being sold so she could be used for breeding but was unable to get pregnant. In any case DRA have now had Coco speyed and we have found this pair their forever home in Northern NSW where they will not be moving again. With walks on the golf course and daily trips to the beach these two have landed in an idyllic dachshund location! Doug has proved to be a bit of a couch potato and Michelle is working on getting his trim figure back and when she gets home from work this happy pair are eager to take their second walk of the day. Having previously owned dachshunds Michelle is loving having Coco and Doug zoom around the house with happiness.

Sally

At 11 years old, Sally the black and tan found herself homeless. Fortunately for all concerned, a family found out that Sally was off to the pound and contacted DRA offering to help until we could sort out a home for her. We are so grateful to the incredibly caring people that look out for dachshunds in need ensuring that life can continue for the oldies. We then contacted a family who have had a previous rescue from us, Hilde, who recently passed away leaving their current dachshund Pippa behind. Pippa was sorely missing her mate so she and Mum and Dad did a 5 hour car trip to go and meet Sally and off she went home with them! Pippa is such a sweet girl she leaves an impression on everyone she meets and it’s a match made in heaven as Sally now has a loving secure home and Pippa has a new friend to get into mischief with. As for the pair of them, the girls have got their owners well trained and they have a cart to hop into if their little legs get tired on long walks. (QLD)

Indy (NSW)

A sea change has literally changed Indy’s life. This beautiful 4 year old girl loves her regular walks on the beach. She also has free fun of the house and garden to patrol and keep in order chasing lizards and other critters while her new owner spends most of his days at home pottering around in the garden and shed. On the days they need to go out for errands, Indy likes to keep her new owner company and she especially enjoys barking at all the other customers in Bunnings. Long trips in the car are also no issue for Indy who curls up in her specially bought bed for such trips.

Baxter and CJ

A friend of ours gave us a present with the words “A home is only a house without dogs”. Thanks to Dachshund Rescue we have a home again. Baxter and CJ joined us early in January and have changed our lives, thank you. Watching the 2 of them run around and smell every corner, every leaf that moves and informing the local birds that the dogs are home. We are so blessed to have had the opportunity to take them into our home. Thank you to Jo Tetlow for her support and encouragement during the process. We hope we will do long dog owners proud in looking after Baxter and CJ and look forward to lots of rowdy barking and cuddles. (WA)

Pippin (SA)

Pippin has a fear of men. When her owners son moved back home Pippin was extremely sad and vocal. Not making a harmonious home for everyone. The family tried training but Pippin wasn't taking to any of it. We are now pleased to report she is Reggie's number 1 girl. After her dachshund had crossed the rainbow bridge. Reggie had been patiently waiting for a dachshund to join her. A match made in heaven, Pippin had a wonderful time her 1st Christmas spoilt with treats. Pippin now has a very quiet home. Her owners are relieved to see her so happy: "Crying happy tears I didn't think you could have possibly chosen a better owner for Pip. Thankyou again, and bless you for doing the wonderful work that you do."

Chase (VIC)

One year old Chase has had a huge transformation in his living situation. His previous home he shared a small area with a very bouncy great Dane. This made Chase timid and withdrawn. He hid in his kennel or sat in the corner. Now he is Welcomed indoors and better still sleeps in the human's bed. At first this dear boy didn't know what to do, he had never experienced such kindness. Chase's tail hasn't stopped wagging, he is getting used to being picked up and learning to trust his new owners. He was welcomed by the resident senior dog and family members, dachshunds. Chase thought they were long lost buddies and bonded immediately. Greg and Sharyn have done an exceptional job in a short amount of time.

Bean & Bear (VIC)

Seven year old sisters were feeling a little stressed with the constant attention from a toddler. Bean and Bear were spending more time outside away from their family, this isn't optimal for them. DRA were very fortunate to have a family to take the girls at short notice. The family has teenagers and young adults in the home much to the approval of Bean and Bear. Lots of exploring at nearby lakes the pair are relishing the attention in their new home. Everyday the girls are showing their different personalities and coming out of their shell.

Boston and Stitch (SA)

Boston and Stitch were accustomed to their family always being home, but when circumstances changed and Mum had long shifts at work, they were beginning to feel isolated at being left for long periods on their own. The family made the hard decision to put Stitch and Boston’s welfare needs first and decided they needed to be rehomed. Their dedicated new owner wanted the transition to be smooth and easy for this pair and so subsequently spent his first nights on the sofa in order to settle Boston.  The boys have now joined a sweet family fox terrier, have human company all the time, together with twice daily walks and each day is met with great enthusiasm.  A visit to the vet for their vaccinations had the vet impressed by their trim figures.

Arlo and Harvey (VIC)

Arlo and Harvey were feeling very unsettled. There family had moved home 3 times in a year. The boys were anxious when family had to go to work. They are sociable boys that love there long walks. There owners felt extremely conflicted about rehoming them. From day 1, they were like ducks to water in there new home. A wonderful extended family of lifetime dachshund owners. Days are filled with sunshine warmth and company from family. It didn't find them long to start running and playing in there new home. No longer do they exhibit anxious tendencies, its a delight to see them welcomed by all.
