Don (3) Melb
Now known as DonDiablo or Donny for short, we are besties and enjoying going to the local dog cafe, dog park and for walks. Living in Melbourne and tacking trams 🚃 everywhere, Donny loves a tram ride and nearly always gets a request for a photo. Everyone just loves him. I can see that Dachshunds are not for everyone but with the right amount of training, you can achieve almost anything.
My sincere appreciation to everyone at DRA and I hope that all future adoptions go extremely smoothly and with great success.
This is to express my appreciation to the people who volunteer with Dachshund Rescue Australia , I had been looking at getting myself a dog for quite some time now, and I stumbled across the DRA website quite by accident whilst going through google.
I completed an online application from with DRA and I was able to correspond with Andrea, who was extremely helpful and keen on arranging for me to meet Don, who was available for adoption. Although I was unable to get to the location where Don was, it was generously arranged for Don to be brought to see me. I fell in love with him very quickly and we have become very good buddies now. Even though I had no experience with a Dachshunds, the training began from day one …
One more thing: Donny has almost completed my training! Yes, that’s right he is training me … I am so happy that I have him and the companionship he gives.
Best wishes Gavin O’DEE & DonDiablo
Twiggy – Melbourne
It’s been 6 weeks since we adopted Twiggy from DRA and we couldn’t be happier or more in love with our little sunshine girl.
From the get-go Andrea at DRA was incredible in her support, guidance and expertise to help us plan for our future with Twiggy. Andrea gave us valuable tips and helped us to anticipate what to expect with Twiggy and then has been an invaluable resource to help guide us on how to settle her in since she’s come home. DRA were fantastic to organise our first vet visit with Twiggy, including having her desexed and vaccinated. Andrea, we can’t thank you enough for choosing us as Twiggy’s new owners and for being so lovely to deal with.
Twiggy is such a special girl, she is bright and sweet and smart as and has adapted into her new life with us beautifully. She spends her days playing and napping and snoozing at home and loves to go on adventures in the car and for big walks in the beautiful southern highlands where we live. We are constantly getting stopped by people wanting to adore her and we can understand why, she is such a beautiful and good-natured little madam. It was a pleasure adopting Twiggy from DRA, we feel lucky to have had this opportunity and grateful to the organisation for helping rehome Dachshunds in need. Thank you!
Costa – SYDNEY
Our journey to adopting Costa the Foster was an unexpected one. After the sudden loss of our beloved Coco to rapid IVDD, we found ourselves needing to find a companion very quickly for our mini-dachshund Frankie, who was grieving the loss of her bonded pair.
While looking through the DRA website, something about Costa and that sweet face spoke to me. From the moment we collected him from the incredible DRA support network, Costa settled in as though he had always been part of our family, and he’s never looked back. We are so thankful to have this gorgeous, fluffy bundle as a new best friend in our lives. Costa the Foster has found his forever home.
A massive thank you to the amazing team at DRA for giving dogs like Costa a second chance, and families like ours the missing piece of our hearts.
DRA are thrilled with this happy success story 🐾🩷
