Success Stories

Harlow 2yrs & Winifred 3yrs QLD.

Harlow and Winifred had their wish of being adopted together fulfilled, and now they are spending their days lounging around their new digs soaking up the sun in one of several warm enticing spots. I guess you could say they have had a sea change, being only a couple of blocks from the ocean they love the daily beach walks and meandering along the foreshore paths. What a life girls!

Amber (sydney)

Amber now has a new home and name Millie to start her new life. Her owners had moved from the interstate and Amber sadly needed a new home. This wasn't an easy decision as she was a much loved young pup. DRA had some great applications fortunately for Millie, she has gone home with land and a dachshund brother George. Georges mate had passed away leaving a large hole in their hearts. George now has a sweet young sister to keep him company. Millie's owners have been ever so patient with her, we thank all new homes for the time and love they give to settle dogs in.

Alena & Hamish – WA

These two darling dachshunds are now living their well earned retirement from being used for breeding. Hamish and Alena met their new owners and not even 24 hours in they were shadowing them from room to room. Next day they helped mum work in the home office and were declared the best ever behaved dachshunds ever! They have a new older sister who is delighted by their arrival and the three of them sleep in the same bed together. Hamish is the more active of the three so he goes for faster paced walks with dad and the girls go for a more leisurly pace with mum.

Ebony – WA

Dear Ebony's elderly owner passed away. She has settled into her new home with Pandora. Ebony had an op to help with her bladder stones. Ensuring she is a happy healthy girl. She's not too fussed over the biscuits the vet has prescribed. Ebony now has a family to keep her company. We are very pleased Rescue could help Ebony find her new home.

Winston & George – WA

A special home was needed when these two 7 year old bonded boys came into DRA. Winston and George were not happy with the new human baby in the house and as they had been nippy in the past, it was decided to surrender them to a more suitable home without young children. Winston is blind in one eye and has cataracts in his other eye and George was very protective of their home. Both were on medications to help with their anxiety. Winston and George are now living quieter lives with their new owner who is retired and experienced with rescue animals. The boys love to sunbathe in their secure garden with their new siblings, a 14 year old female dachshund and two cats aged 17 and 2.

Bonnie & Clyde QLD 1yr

Bonnie and Clyde are just the sweetest little hooligans that you couldnt help but fall in love with immediately, and they have definitely landed on their little legs in their new acreage home. They have even managed to lose a little bit of weight with all the running they are now doing! With lovely resident dog Beau to show them the ropes, they quickly picked up toilet training and are happily going into the crate at night. (although Bonnie sometimes needs a bit of a hurry along) Bonnie is happy getting cuddles from all the kids, whereas Clyde always heads straight to his human mummy for first cuddles. Way to go Bonnie and Clyde, we hope you love your new forever home!

Lenny (Banora NSW)

Pocket Rocket Lenny arrived at his new home to the delight of his new sister Holly (also DRA rescue) who had been grieving the loss of her 16 year old brother. Lenny and Holly love to play chasey and have become best of friends. Lenny is an energetic boy who is enjoying his walks. Training Lenny has not been easy and we are grateful to his new owners who are putting in a massive effort to help him become the best version of himself. Lenny rewards his owners by being the most affectionate and cuddly dachshund they have ever had.

Rupert (south australia)

Rupert's breeder contacted DRA when the vets advised he was blind. The search was on for his "special" forever home! We were very grateful when Eleanor and Luke did a road trip from Canberra to Adelaide. Rupert has two adorable sisters Rosie the basset and Hannah the dachshund. What more could a "boy" want. Unfortunately after a specialist visit it was confirmed Rupert was never going to have sight. We were hoping with a miracle it may have been possible. As he was born with this condition he knows no difference. This is his normal way he sees the world. Rupert's parents are very active and lucky dogs are socialised and go on lots of dachie walks.Rupert has a loving forever home thanks go to adopters that welcome these special needs pups. xx

Ruby (Vic)

Sensitive Ruby was purchased online and then transported by van to Victoria. She arrived in a distressed state; frightened and disoriented. She was underweight weighing just over 3 kgs. Her owner, who had longed for a dachshund companion, soon discovered Ruby was not the girl she was expecting. She was highly strung, poorly socialised, reactive to other dogs, cowered or ran away if approached, and fearful of men. Her owner, who only wanted the best for this wee Ruby, knew her busy home was not right for her. Thankfully there is a silver lining to this poor girl’s story, named Jan and Craig. Ruby was welcomed into their calm home to be fostered in view of adoption. Quietly spoken Jan was Ruby’s primary carer. With love, patience and a predictable routine, Betty slowly transformed into a mostly confident little dachshund. She will need further training overcome reactivity when out walking but Jan and Craig feel positive that one day she will be an ideal companion. And yes, Ruby has become a permanent and much loved member of the family.
