Success Stories

Baxter (canberra)

Baxter's family had major changes with work relocating interstate. At 16 months old the search was on to find him a compatible home. He has been adopted by a wonderful owner and has a sweet sister Molly. Andi has dedicated lots of resources and time into Baxter. He is an anxious boy and can be very vocal at home alone, even for a short period. We hope in time he rewards his dedicated mum and starts to cooperate and relax. Baxter and Molly live in an idyllic spot near the beach.

Pluto

Pluto had a rough start in life and was rescued in a pitiful state. Once his health weight and skin improved DRA were approached to rehome him. Pluto was a nervous boy, wary of males and resource guarded people, space and his belongings. He needed experienced dachshund owners with patience in abundance. Rick and Esme were prepared for the challenge. Mika their DRA rescue dachshund was initially apprehensive but as the weeks went by began to appreciate the handsome boy in her life. Pluto still has some behavioural challenges but is steadily improving as trust in his new owners develops. He has finally found his forever home and Pluto is now a happy boy.

Baby (NSW)

Baby had come from a home where she and one of the other resident dachshunds had both decided it was a good idea to gang up on the cats in the household. Keeping all the animals separated and safe from each other was becoming very stressful for all involved. Baby has now been adopted by a lovely family and she has a new furry dachshund brother called Franklin. Baby was a little snappy on her arrival but soon discovered what fun it is to play and enjoy kisses and cuddles. Although she hadn't been on too many walks in her old home, she now loves going out and about exploring the neighbourhood. Baby also enjoys watching the footy with her family and sleeping in washing baskets.
Saffy Seeka Pablo

Saffron Warrnambool (Vic)

Saffy's owner was going into care unable to take her with him. Saffy is a shy girl and we searched for a caring home that matched her needs. Seeka and Pablo DRA boys now have a lovely wire sister to play with. Saffron has gone to a lovely home in country Victoria, she is kept busy with her brothers with all the wonderful smells and wildlife to see. A recent visit in the caravan they took Saffy to see her owner, thankyou to these caring people that welcome these dachshunds to their forever homes. Often at short notice.

Hughie (NSW)

At the tender age of less than 6 months old, Hughie had already been delivered back to his registered breeder when it was discovered he had an undescended testicle. The breeder promptly on sold him for the second time to another home where he would be alone all day whilst they were at work. Hughie was beside himself when left alone, throwing himself against the walls and door, crying all day. Heartbroken and with no advice or help from the breeder his owners decided that Hugie's needs had to come first to avoid any further distress to him and surrendered him to DRA. Hughie is now in a home where there is a beautiful established female dachshund called Polly. She has helped Hughie cope when their owners leave the home and although they are both a little sad when left, they take themselves off to bed to sleep the time away. Luckily being a busy family home, they are never alone for long periods. Hughie's new family fell in love with him from the very first day and his days are spent enjoying the garden, playing, receiving cuddles and laptime. Hughie... We are so happy that you are now in a home where your needs are met and you are the living the life you deserve.

Bailey (NSW)

Bailey was sadly surrendered to DRA as she was no longer able to be kept with her owner living in her nursing home. Covid restrictions followed by the NSW flooding had meant that Bailey was unable to be taken to the groomers or vet. She was spending all her time in her owners room sitting under her chair. Doing her business inside was a potential tripping hazzard for staff and management decided that she had to leave ASAP. Bailey settled into her new home without any issues at all. She has had a much needed dental, a well earned pamper session and her hair is now manageable and glossy. The very pretty Bailey is also on her way to a healthier weight after dropping 500 grams. Below is a poem written for her much loved Bailey by her previous owner, Judy. Morning Walk I take my dachshund for a walk I cannot stop to rest or talk She's on a trail with scent so strong I'm just a burden she drags along She darts here, she darts there I cannot imagine what's caught her stare She has no fear as she follows thru The bracken, thorns and brambles too She disappears upon the trail And all I see is her wagging tail For who could know what prowls by night Only my dachshund whose in for a fright!

Franklin (NSW)

A busy household with young children made it difficult to administer Franklin’s daily medication for his allergies so it was with his comfort in mind that he was surrendered to DRA. After a rather lengthy animal transfer road trip, Franklin was delighted to be met by his new owners whereby he ran straight towards them for plenty of cuddles. He has also been welcomed into his new home by his new elderly sister Paulina who is also a DRA rescue. Paulina and Franklin hit it off together far better than was ever expected and they spend most of their days together sharing lots of doggie kisses. (NSW)

Tex (gold coast) loveable longhair

Tex is now a very happy dachshund. He has gained a fur brother Pablo and a family with older children that have all welcomed him in. Living close by to the beach these dachshunds have a great social life. Tex was quite anxious around men, it's a delight to see him trust and adore his new dad Jimmy. Tex is a perfect match for the family, we appreciate the care they provided settling him in. His former owner is extremely grateful Tex is in a loving, relaxed dachshund home.

Ruby (6) Newcastle, NSW

Ruby is just loving living her new life with her new doggie pal Floyd and exploring her country property. She has become quite a social little dachshund, and her days are now spent going to the beach and she even went along to the Anzac Day dawn service to pay her respects. Thanks to special people like Ruby's new owner who are committed to making sure that she is able to live her best possible life!
