Success Stories

Hughie (NSW)

At the tender age of less than 6 months old, Hughie had already been delivered back to his registered breeder when it was discovered he had an undescended testicle. The breeder promptly on sold him for the second time to another home where he would be alone all day whilst they were at work. Hughie was beside himself when left alone, throwing himself against the walls and door, crying all day. Heartbroken and with no advice or help from the breeder his owners decided that Hugie's needs had to come first to avoid any further distress to him and surrendered him to DRA. Hughie is now in a home where there is a beautiful established female dachshund called Polly. She has helped Hughie cope when their owners leave the home and although they are both a little sad when left, they take themselves off to bed to sleep the time away. Luckily being a busy family home, they are never alone for long periods. Hughie's new family fell in love with him from the very first day and his days are spent enjoying the garden, playing, receiving cuddles and laptime. Hughie... We are so happy that you are now in a home where your needs are met and you are the living the life you deserve.

Bailey (NSW)

Bailey was sadly surrendered to DRA as she was no longer able to be kept with her owner living in her nursing home. Covid restrictions followed by the NSW flooding had meant that Bailey was unable to be taken to the groomers or vet. She was spending all her time in her owners room sitting under her chair. Doing her business inside was a potential tripping hazzard for staff and management decided that she had to leave ASAP. Bailey settled into her new home without any issues at all. She has had a much needed dental, a well earned pamper session and her hair is now manageable and glossy. The very pretty Bailey is also on her way to a healthier weight after dropping 500 grams. Below is a poem written for her much loved Bailey by her previous owner, Judy. Morning Walk I take my dachshund for a walk I cannot stop to rest or talk She's on a trail with scent so strong I'm just a burden she drags along She darts here, she darts there I cannot imagine what's caught her stare She has no fear as she follows thru The bracken, thorns and brambles too She disappears upon the trail And all I see is her wagging tail For who could know what prowls by night Only my dachshund whose in for a fright!

Franklin (NSW)

A busy household with young children made it difficult to administer Franklin’s daily medication for his allergies so it was with his comfort in mind that he was surrendered to DRA. After a rather lengthy animal transfer road trip, Franklin was delighted to be met by his new owners whereby he ran straight towards them for plenty of cuddles. He has also been welcomed into his new home by his new elderly sister Paulina who is also a DRA rescue. Paulina and Franklin hit it off together far better than was ever expected and they spend most of their days together sharing lots of doggie kisses. (NSW)

Tex (gold coast) loveable longhair

Tex is now a very happy dachshund. He has gained a fur brother Pablo and a family with older children that have all welcomed him in. Living close by to the beach these dachshunds have a great social life. Tex was quite anxious around men, it's a delight to see him trust and adore his new dad Jimmy. Tex is a perfect match for the family, we appreciate the care they provided settling him in. His former owner is extremely grateful Tex is in a loving, relaxed dachshund home.

Ruby (6) Newcastle, NSW

Ruby is just loving living her new life with her new doggie pal Floyd and exploring her country property. She has become quite a social little dachshund, and her days are now spent going to the beach and she even went along to the Anzac Day dawn service to pay her respects. Thanks to special people like Ruby's new owner who are committed to making sure that she is able to live her best possible life!

Bambi (NSW)

Bambi's presence inside the home was causing the baby's allergies to flare up and understandably she wasn't coping very well being left outside on her own. On arrival at her new home, she was a little anxious and snappy but quickly bonded with the family where there is always a lap to sit on and someone to give her cuddles. Bambi has a new dachshund brother called Toby and they are never far from each other. Bambi and Toby love going on their twice daily walks and playing chasey around the house.

Snoop and Daisy (QLD) marsden area

Snoop and Daisy found themselves in need of a new home. Their owner relocated for work and didn't have the time to give them. Luckily for the girls after being foster care. A wonderful home came in from South Australia. They now have a large backyard and a family with lots of time and commitment to get them on the right track. Snoop and Daisy are very lucky to live in such a nice spot in Adelaide. DRA are very grateful for Karen and her family for the attention and care they have given Snoop and Daisy.

connie and cleo toowoomba QLD

Connie and Cleo are sweet young girls. Their owner found herself with a busy young family It's hard to walk the girls and have them indoors. The search was on to match them to a home that would provide everything they needed. Lucky for Connie and Cleo they have an instant family with a dachshund brother for company. The girls are extremely close and were of great comfort to each other settling into their new home.

Bowie (NSW)

Bowie's life has been transformed. Previously an outdoor dog sleeping in the garden shed. Bowie now has a sister Rosie to keep him company. DRA and Bowie are extremely grateful for people adopting dachshunds. Bowie has a lot of love to give, it's a pleasure seeing him welcomed in his new home.
