Matilda – Melbourne
I’ve been with my new family for 5 weeks and I’ve already taught my family about how I like to run things. Dad and I work the farm each day checking water troughs on the quad bike and I chase the kangaroos out of the paddock. I’ve made friends with the blue chickens on the dam and am now learning how to walk on a lead so I can go metal detecting with Dad. Xmas day was grouse. I love wrapping paper and luckily I was still in baby shark mode for this. I have my big girl teeth coming so I’m nearly all grown up. I go to the local obedience park twice a week so that when it’s my turn to go to school I won’t be scared. In the evenings, I snuggle with my mum. She’s really good at keeping me safe and warm. My family are really happy that I joined them. The house isn’t quiet anymore. Anyway love to stay and chat but today is my first ride in the tractor so have to go. Cheerio Matilda.
We are delighted for this family. Tilda is one of Summer's pups.

Rambo Melbourne
Rambo joined our family 3 weeks ago through an application to Dachshund Rescue and it was love at first sight. Like any new family member settling in has had its trials and tribulations but I was lucky enough to be able to take a week from work to give him my undivided attention and settle him into some sort of a routine with toilet, play, simple training such as sit come and no, then food and nap. It was important to us that he be able to accompany us on day trips and weekends so as soon as he was fully vaccinated we introduced him to other dogs and people who we knew would tolerate his puppy exuberance. He is an extremely confident, affectionate and intelligent pup and the supply of plenty of soft toys, kongs, teething rings and cuddles used for the art of distraction has prevented a lot of the usual chewing of our belongings that puppies tend to do. Dachshund Rescue was extremely supportive both during the application process and after we collected Rambo, I know if there is any problems or questions then they will be available to assist both now and in the future. Once Rambo has grown up a little we will definitely be getting a companion through them for him 😊maybe 2. Can’t recommend them enough

Prinz Melbourne
It's been 4 weeks since we got out darling little Prinz and it was love at first sight. With his piercing blue eye and his love of shoes, Prinz has fitted into our family with ease with his silly personality. Prinz passions include a good car ride and loves to give you a good hug and kisses. He also loves a good snuggle at the end of the day.
The whole process of submitting an adoption application to actually picking up Prinz was seamless I would like to thank DRA because you have given us joy.

Ernie – Melbourne
Here is the reflection on the first month with Ernie ❤️ Ernie cocoa Since the first day we met Ernie we were smitten. He is equal measures sweet, silly and a boundless ball of puppy energy. He has slotted into our household of two small kids and two senior cats very happily. He relishes snatching an unguarded shoe or sock, and also curling up asleep on my feet as I make dinner in the kitchen. He loves a busy day of exploring our neighbourhood on walks, playing fetch, tug of war and chasey with the kids, and zoomies around the yard, before cuddling up to us on the couch at night. Ernie is a smart dog, and has figured out what to do pretty quickly (though we are still working on the toilet training 😂). He settled into using a crate right away and slept through the night within the first week. When we need to go out and do things without him he manages very well on his own for short periods, and happily spends time with the long queue of people willing to offer their assistance if we need to leave him for any longer than a couple of hours. He loves bones to munch on, and his chew toys to keep him occupied, which has so far worked to stop any other precious items being chewed. After losing our much beloved older dachshund earlier in 2024, we couldn’t imagine ever being owned by any other kind of dog. We were waiting patiently and looking regularly at dachshund rescue’s beautiful dogs to find the perfect match. When Summer’s pups came up for adoption we didn’t hesitate and we are so lucky and glad to have Ernie in our lives. DRA has been so supportive, helpful and kind - I have been telling everyone considering adopting a dog to look DRA up. I would 100% recommend getting in touch with them if you are serious about adopting and have found a friend that you think you might be able to offer the right kind of home for.
We are so grateful for this little family. Ernie is one of Summer's pups
Little Bark W Griswold -Melbourne
Little Bark W Griswold (Ferdinand) has settled in quite well! He and DJ (our other sausage) play every day for hours, and love getting out on walks to tell everyone around who’s the boss of the neighbourhood! Bark W Griswold has definitely bonded with me and follows me everywhere around the house. He doesn’t take a step back and is confident through and through - taken on some of his movie’s namesake! Since we lost our other pup earlier last year, Bark W Griswold has definitely filled our home with love.
DRA are very happy for this Dachie family. BWG is one of Summer's puppies.

I am so grateful to Dachshund Rescue Australia for allowing me the opportunity to adopt one of their dogs. DRA has been so supportive throughout the adoption process and I cannot thank them enough. Sasha has adapted so well to home life, grown as a little individual and continues to bring joy everyday. Thank you DRA for the opportunity you have given me and thank you for all the work you continue to do for dogs in need of a forever home - "rescued is my favourite breed"
Taffy – Melbourne
Adopting Taffy (formally Alice - our red dapple, wired hair Miniature Dachshund), from Dachshund Rescue Australia has been one of the most rewarding experiences for our family. From the moment we welcomed her into our home, she has brought so much joy, energy, laughs and love to our lives. Her cheeky nature and affectionate personality quickly made her an integral part of our home and family (and a contentious snuggle buddy between our 3 boys at bed time)!
Settling Taffy into our family wasn’t without its challenges - we had forgotten what it was like to have a puppy again (she seems to love chewing on my hats), and like any puppy, she needed time to adjust to her new surroundings. We had to establish routines to help her feel secure, buy treats to assist her with training, support and ensure a loving bond between our new pooch and our existing 3yo short haired Mindarie Dachshund (Snickers) and buy lots of coffee for the early morning puppy toilet breaks! Training her has been both an adventure and a bonding experience for our whole family, and although she is still learning, we’ve all grown together as a family and can't imagine our lives without her.
Despite the typical hurdles of raising a puppy, the adoption process with Dachshund Rescue Australia has been incredibly supportive. Their dedication to matching dogs with the right families ensured that Taffy was the perfect fit for us (and us for her). Andi in particular has provided us with resources and guidance to help us understand her needs and make her transition into our home as smooth as possible.
Taffy has not only brought happiness to our lives but has also reminded us of the importance of compassion and responsibility. Adopting her has reaffirmed the significance of giving rescue dogs a second chance of life, love and affection due to a myraid of reasons beyond their control.
We are grateful to Dachshund Rescue Australia for the opportunity to welcome Taffy into our family and look forward to many more adventures with her by our side.
