Biscuit

Biscuit was a victim of a puppy mill and was brought into the RSPCA after an inspection. Poor Biscuit was struggling whilst at the pound and the RSPCA reached out to DRA to help find him a home to call his own. It was a bit of a race to get him out before Christmas but thanks to his new owners driving a mammoth 22 hour drive, Biscuit finally arrived at his new home just in time for some Xmas turkey. Biscuit now has two dachshund brothers, Cumberland and Chorizo. Cumberland is the more energetic of the two so he and Biscuit spend many hours playing in the garden with each other and their toys. Chorizo being the more relaxed dachshund is perfect for Biscuit to chill with and sleep next to. Biscuit is settling into his new home and enjoying the comforts of having a loving and affectionate family. Although some noises make him jump, he is learning from his brothers that all is OK. Biscuit's Christmas wish definitely came true and we could not be happier for him.

Ruby – Perth

Ruby is happily settled into her new home. She had to undergo some extensive dental surgery requiring many extractions but has fully recovered and is now pain free. Ruby is quite a vocal girl who knows what she wants and will certainly communicate with her new owners when she wants something! Ruby enjoys her daily walks around the block meeting other local dogs going about their business. It's fair to say that everyone is happy with the arrival of Ruby except perhaps the cat but we are sure it won't take too long before they too will become best friends.

Pippa- 4 Year Old Standard Red -Perth

Pippa needed to be rehomed quickly as for some reason or other she was fighting with her brother. This is where one of our foster carers came to the rescue and picked up Pippa. The rest of the story we will leave to Chante the foster carer. "When I was first asked to foster Pippa I was never expecting to fall in love with a dog so fast! From the first day she was already so attached and has become my little shadow. She’s the sweetest little girl with a very big personality! Everyone that meets her absolutely adores her! I already can’t imagine my life without my sassy little girl 🥰 I can’t recommend DRA enough they make the process of fostering and adopting so easy and you can definitely tell how much they care for every single dachshund! "

Dexter (7) Peninsula Melb

We are thrilled to report that Dexter is an extremely happy boy, having settled into his new home very quickly. Using his keen hearing he is able to gauge whether a car is turning into our place or not! He is a great security guard and getting to know very quickly whether visitors are family/friends or not and acts accordingly! Whilst a little apprehensive of the doggies door he soon discovered its benefits although he thrives on imitating human behaviours like sliding doors and lounge chairs!! Dexter is enjoying the sensory benefits of our back yard and has searched out some sunbathing stops. In the cooler mornings his favourite sunbathing spot is inside on the back door mat. Dexter loves to play indoors with his many toys as well as chilling out on his chair (pictured). He is beginning to enjoy his sensory walk around the local park, although he was a bit timid at first about the dogs barking in the nearby backyards. Dexter has made himself at home now and is forming his own little routines like sitting on dad's lap after dinner at night, asking for lots of cuddles and sleeping in his own bed on Dad's side!! Mum has a few disabilities and Dexter picked up on these very quickly, which means he is more gentle in his playing and always walks behind mum. Dexter is a delight in every way and we are so thrilled that his re-settlement went so smoothly. Thankyou to the DRA team for your dedication and professional dedicating to ensuring best match for both parties. Thankyou. Peter, Desma and Dexter

Jerry – ACT

Jerry was originally rescued from a shelter but was extremely clingy and suffering from extreme separation anxiety from his new rescue owner. Sadly it was with reluctance but with Jerry's best interests at heart that he was surrendered to DRA. Jerry is now living with his new dachshund brother Chino. The boys hit it off immediately and are now a very bonded pair. Jerry has been very brave in his new home and his confidence is growing daily. During the Christmas holiday, Jerry was a little standoffish with visitors at the house but he quickly became everyone's best friend; especially when he knew there was food nearby! Jerry is an intelligent dachshund who always looks like he is trying to listen to his humans conversations. He had already learnt a few commands in his previous home and we know that he will go from strength to strength in his new home. We wish you all the best Jerry!

Milo, Sydney Northern Beaches

Milo is doing incredibly well, and has settled into an amazing country life, he is a doted, loved and cared for by a beautiful family who are extremely knowledgable in autoimmune diseases and the necessary care that Milo will require on going. DRA will be supporting Milo over the coming months of treatment and care and will stay actively involved in his progress.

Frankston, 7yrs, Cairns QLD.

Frankston is a sensitive little fella who wasnt coping well with recent changes and apartment living was just not for him. Thankfully Nick and his family saw his profile and felt he could be a good little match for their boy Arlo. Frankston is now learning to love his forever home, in particular he has a choice of laps to snuggle up on, a back yard to sniff around in and he has his calm doggie brothers Arlo and Bailey that set a great example. Nick has commented how they can see he is lapping up all the attention and what a happy little dachshund he is. Thanks for choosing to adopt!

Chilli – 1and a half Years – Sydney

Due to her owners increased work commitments Chilli was being left alone for long periods during the day. This resulted in her suffering from separation anxiety which caused her to bark and annoy the neighbours. Her owners tried everything they could to calm her down as they did not want to part with their beautiful little girl. They finally decided that she would need to go to a home where her owners were home more, and the neighbours were more understanding. She is now living a stress-free life with another dachsie called Alfie, several cats and 5 humans. She has the freedom to move between inside and outside as she chooses and there is someone home most of the day to keep her company.

Greta.

Greta has a sad tale to tell, only 9 months old and she has already had several homes before coming to us. When the foster carer went to pick her up, poor Greta was stressed and skinny, her ribs were all poking out. The foster carer loved, nourished and calmed poor Greta....and it didnt take long at all for her sweet self to start to emerge. Thankfully, all of the foster carers rellies are 'dachshund people'....and when her sister saw Greta she just knew she would be perfect for her family. Greta is now living the doggie dream...she has a whole family who absolutely adore her. She lives inside with the family, sleeps with the family, walks with the family, holidays with the family, swims in the pool with the family What more could a little dachshund ask for than a safe, secure forever home. A big thanks to Susan who fostered Great at such short notice, you were her guardian angel that day!
