Penny / Cherry 14 months northern beaches sydney

Cherry continues to thrive and to delight her extended family. She is currently exhausted after a long weekend with her tan “cousin”, who taught her some manners and ran her ragged. Happy Christmas to you.

Millie: 11mths Orange N.S.W

Well what a rewarding experience we have had with our Miss Millie. We were convinced that we would be able to manage this sassy little lady with no problems at all. We were about to find out what a strong will this little lady has but please stick with us as all ends well. Our first day started with not being able to get her out of the car as she was so terrified about whether she could trust these strangers who had taken possession of her. She was going to bite us and it was like she was in a fight for her life. Our heart was breaking and we just wanted to show her that she was going to be very loved. I should mention that we have another male dachshund called Puddles. Once we got her out of the car and introductions were made between herself and Puddles, she began to feel more comfortable. We eventually made our way into the house and in no time at all she was snuggling up to us for some measure of comfort. She would come to us on her own terms and in her own time. It wasn't long before she was beginning to play with her toys and vying for our attention. She was enjoying our walks and was more accepting of visitors to the house. Millie’s personality started to shine through and she is now a beautiful confident and delightful little dog with a lot of love to give and we absolutely adore her. She and Puddles are very much a bonded pair now and daily zoomies are part of a normal day. Our days and nights are spent with them both within inches of us and we wouldn't have it any other way. If there is one thing we have learnt by this experience, it is to be patient and my goodness you will be rewarded. Dachshund Rescue do such wonderful work in finding homes for these precious pups and you must be prepared for some work but it is so worth the journey.

Ace and Ivy – Adelaide

After sadly losing their adored Miniature Pinscher Sully, the sound of the little feet of Ace and Ivy pitter pattering in the home is one of pure joy to their new owners. The adorable litter siblings have settled into their new home without any issues at all. As soon as they get up in the morning it's always a rush to check that the kids are awake and ready to play. Ace and Ivy are very well behaved and love it when guests visit the home and give them cuddles and pats.

Sadie Carrara QLD

Sadie has found herself an ideal home. A family that has lots of planned activities for Sadie to be a part of and a fur sibling to cuddle up to at night. There has been plenty of shenanigans going on that is entertaining the family. The owners are so understanding of the settling in process and have realistic expectations, but the foundations are there for a very happy ending. They may need shares in a pillow factory haha two have bitten the dust. Congratulations little Sadie Lady you go off and enjoy your new home with your wonderful new family.

Frankie – 9 years – Brisbane Qld

Frankie was originally surrendered into our care when he was 4 years old. His new owner trained him well and gave him a wonderful home for 5 years. Unfortunately, due to a change in housing circumstances she had to surrender him, so we wanted to find a wonderful home for this 9 year old boy. His new owners have fallen in love with him and have written his new chapter below. "New House, New State, so it was only fitting for a new best mate for our dachy boy Cino, (insert Frankie) dachshunds are no stranger to our family, we have had our boy for 7.5 years, we knew moving away from the big smoke (Sydney) to an acre of paradise in “god’s country” after browsing DRA, we were drawn to Mr Frankie – long-lost brothers, they were identical. He enjoys snuggling and would sleep in (our) bed or on the couch all day if we let him! When he hears the alarm go off every morning, he makes sure we're awake and up so he can sneak up the covers and grab a few more hours of Zzzz! With Frank around, there is no sense of urgency. Don't be fooled by his laid-back napping habits; this guy is also plenty of energy! He enjoys playing with his "babies" (stuffed toys) and taking walks & cruising the perimeter of the block, making sure we are safe. He absolutely adores the beach and the car! He is very social, and he is helping Cino overcome his fear of those big, scary dogs. He also never passes up an opportunity to receive a treat (you get many when you are cute!), and he is a very good boy who eats all his fruits and vegetables. Frank (and Cino) are the typical Dach Security boys; they sit out front and alert us when anyone approaches the home. Frank has been a fantastic fit for our family. He is the most friendly, affectionate, and easygoing dog. He is also a goofball! We are frequently told how handsome and well-behaved he is (they do not see the mischief he gets into at home!). We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful boy. We continue maintaining contact with Frank's OG family, keeping them up to date on the boys' adventures (and trouble). We are very fortunate that our stars aligned, and our timing was right to be able to match up and have the opportunity to adopt him. He was a very lucky boy to have a loving family before us who were only doing what will be an enjoyable senior life for him to live out on our property, and we are very grateful for the love and care DRA has shown and assisted in." Sharni James Cino (& Frankie)

Ziggy and Lenny – Maitland NSW

Lenny and Ziggy have quickly beome accustomed to their new surroundings and routine. Their little sensors know when its 5 O'Clock and there is no chance that mum will ever forget that it's time for their walk. With so many beautiful pathways, parks and a lake to explore, Lenny and Ziggy really enjoy this time of the day. These boys are very bonded and are never far from each other whether it's in the garden playing and chewing on sticks or inside the house keeping mum company whilst she works. Lenny and Ziggy have lots of fun times to look forward to and they are soon to experience their first trip on the houseboat. Thank you to their new owner for adopting these beautiful boys.

Gemma, 12wks, Gold Coast, QLD

Lucy, (was called Gemma) has truly bought a lot of joy to a young family living on the Gold Coast. When Lucy was introduced to the children, they were so excited that there were tears of joy, and they even slept the first night next to her pen in the lounge. Lucy has a beatiful nature, she adores playing with her toys and is always up for any sort of family adventure. We just know that Lucy is probably going to get a little spoilt this Christmas! Thank you for choosing to adopt a rescue dachshund.

Harry, 12wks, Gold Coast, QLD.

Harry has been adopted into a young family whose hearts were healing after losing their previous Dachshund. Harry has bought lots of love and laughter into the family again, and they are completely adore him. He is an energetic little fella and if not running around the house will be curled up playing with one of his toys. Thank you Hayley and family for choosing to adopt Harry!

Archie (3) melbourne

Archie's owners needed to rehome him due to a change in their living arrangements His new owners are so happy that they adopted him and sent this message and some recent photos. "It is with great pleasure that we have now decided to adopt Archie to be a family member of ours. From day 1 Archie settled into our home showing us that he had accepted us as his new owners. He is a very loving little boy and loves both of us as we do him. We didn't walk him for 3 days as we wanted for him to settle in. When we did walk him and found that he was fearful of other dogs having been in lockdown for 2 years, so we will have a professional trainer to help him overcome his problem. Archie adjusted very well to eating, using his doggie door for toilet and first night slept well in his own bed with us in our room. He loves chasing his ball and playing with his soft toy dog. Loves cuddling up to us enjoying pats and the companionship. We are ever so happy to have Archie now in our lives after the loss of an older dachshund dog that passed away 6 months ago. Thanks to the team at DRA and Diane in finding us this lovely boy Archie. Blessings to all"
