Peaches

We had a applied for a couple dachshunds, had a meet and greet with one. Those just weren’t meant to be. I got a phone call about sweet little Peaches, and it was all systems go and I picked her up the next day. The process of adopting Peaches from start to finish was fantastic. The volunteers care so much about each and every dachshund. They are empathetic to the people rehoming and the families wanting to adopt a new dachshund. Peaches had previously had some separation anxiety and were willing to do what needed to be done to help her settle in with us. She has no issues at home alone now. She’s got a bestie at home with her (our 8yo Rottweiler) our rotti was starting to slow down and Peaches has put the spring back in her step. The communication with the DRA volunteers is fantastic, it was a great process. They are on top of everything and communicate effectively. Peaches loves to be involved with everything we are doing. If it’s a trip the farm or going down the slip and slide with the kids. She’s perfect little addition to our family after losing our last dachshund in early 2023. Thank you so much DRA! for finding us our Princess Peaches. All of us here at D.R.A are thrilled for this little family. Peaches is one lucky little pooch.

Dex 3 Milly 2 : Brisbane

I couldn't recommend D.R.A enough! From the first contact, I knew I had found an organization I could trust and two Dachshunds to love forever. The transition from enquiry to being a new Dachie mum of two was seamless! I cannot thank D.R.A enough for bringing Dex and Milly into my life. They have settled into their new home and love their morning and afternoon walks. Weekend adventures and almost endless play time and of course loads of cuddle time. Thank you love Dex, Milly, Saphire, Cass and Leia

Hugo & Roxy Perth Western Australia

Hugo and Roxy were surrendered to us originally in 2017 and had a wonderful home with their new owner until the family dynamics changed and they were surrendered to us in 2023. They have now found their perfect retirement home in the country with wonderful human and doggy company. Their new owner writes. "We were looking for a third dog after our mini dachshund Maude passed away in April. We are used to having three dogs in our family so when Maude passed on, we felt we were missing a piece. I had been keeping an eye on adopting via DRA, most were in the Eastern States making it difficult to meet and greet. Then... Roxy and Hugo, the seniors, came up in WA and I just had a feeling they were meant for us, never intending to have four dogs! We took them on the two-week trial at the end of November and have not looked back. They have fitted in beautifully with our family - with some learning curves on who is boss of the pack (our border collie!), what cats are, and they are not to be chased, and what chickens are, and they are not to be eaten - a very dachshund response which we have managed with exposure training. Roxy thinks she is a queen and will let you know if you are not paying the attention, she would like by giving you a little growl to say pick me up! She also gives a wicked side eye!! Hugo is a lover and will happily sit on your lap all day if you let him but goes crazy at bone time jumping about like a puppy. Hugo was a bit naughty at his previous home with human males, but we have not experienced this at this point, except the first day with the man of the house he was a bit wary. All other males over the festive season he has been great with. They both love chasing off the foxes early in the morning with our other two dogs. We let them out and they roar off into the paddock chasing off a fox, with the poultry having sounded the alarm something is not right with cackling and honking - they both have learnt this noise and know what it means!! They both know the routine of the day and love coming down to the chook pen in the afternoon to let the chooks out. So, we now have 3 dachshunds (although Roxy we think has a bit of chihuahua in her but shh don't tell her that ;)) and a border collie. All have settled into their rankings, and it is great to see the gang patrolling the property together."

Katie (6) southern highlands nsw

From Pagan new adopter, You may remember the post in October about Katie, who was looking for a new home. I sent in my application, and I’m so happy to let you know that my application was successful. Katie arrived yesterday - what a darling wee girl, it was love at first sight. Katie had a wonderful first night, she slept right through. She is eating well, and is super relaxed and settling in beautifully. She is now sharing her life with Patrick the Irish Wolfhound, and Oliver the poodle mix. Oh, and me 😁 We adore her, and I’m so grateful and over the moon happy that we were chosen to be her new family. Thank you so much to everyone 💜

Penny / Cherry 14 months northern beaches sydney

Cherry continues to thrive and to delight her extended family. She is currently exhausted after a long weekend with her tan “cousin”, who taught her some manners and ran her ragged. Happy Christmas to you.

Millie: 11mths Orange N.S.W

Well what a rewarding experience we have had with our Miss Millie. We were convinced that we would be able to manage this sassy little lady with no problems at all. We were about to find out what a strong will this little lady has but please stick with us as all ends well. Our first day started with not being able to get her out of the car as she was so terrified about whether she could trust these strangers who had taken possession of her. She was going to bite us and it was like she was in a fight for her life. Our heart was breaking and we just wanted to show her that she was going to be very loved. I should mention that we have another male dachshund called Puddles. Once we got her out of the car and introductions were made between herself and Puddles, she began to feel more comfortable. We eventually made our way into the house and in no time at all she was snuggling up to us for some measure of comfort. She would come to us on her own terms and in her own time. It wasn't long before she was beginning to play with her toys and vying for our attention. She was enjoying our walks and was more accepting of visitors to the house. Millie’s personality started to shine through and she is now a beautiful confident and delightful little dog with a lot of love to give and we absolutely adore her. She and Puddles are very much a bonded pair now and daily zoomies are part of a normal day. Our days and nights are spent with them both within inches of us and we wouldn't have it any other way. If there is one thing we have learnt by this experience, it is to be patient and my goodness you will be rewarded. Dachshund Rescue do such wonderful work in finding homes for these precious pups and you must be prepared for some work but it is so worth the journey.

Ace and Ivy – Adelaide

After sadly losing their adored Miniature Pinscher Sully, the sound of the little feet of Ace and Ivy pitter pattering in the home is one of pure joy to their new owners. The adorable litter siblings have settled into their new home without any issues at all. As soon as they get up in the morning it's always a rush to check that the kids are awake and ready to play. Ace and Ivy are very well behaved and love it when guests visit the home and give them cuddles and pats.

Sadie Carrara QLD

Sadie has found herself an ideal home. A family that has lots of planned activities for Sadie to be a part of and a fur sibling to cuddle up to at night. There has been plenty of shenanigans going on that is entertaining the family. The owners are so understanding of the settling in process and have realistic expectations, but the foundations are there for a very happy ending. They may need shares in a pillow factory haha two have bitten the dust. Congratulations little Sadie Lady you go off and enjoy your new home with your wonderful new family.

Frankie – 9 years – Brisbane Qld

Frankie was originally surrendered into our care when he was 4 years old. His new owner trained him well and gave him a wonderful home for 5 years. Unfortunately, due to a change in housing circumstances she had to surrender him, so we wanted to find a wonderful home for this 9 year old boy. His new owners have fallen in love with him and have written his new chapter below. "New House, New State, so it was only fitting for a new best mate for our dachy boy Cino, (insert Frankie) dachshunds are no stranger to our family, we have had our boy for 7.5 years, we knew moving away from the big smoke (Sydney) to an acre of paradise in “god’s country” after browsing DRA, we were drawn to Mr Frankie – long-lost brothers, they were identical. He enjoys snuggling and would sleep in (our) bed or on the couch all day if we let him! When he hears the alarm go off every morning, he makes sure we're awake and up so he can sneak up the covers and grab a few more hours of Zzzz! With Frank around, there is no sense of urgency. Don't be fooled by his laid-back napping habits; this guy is also plenty of energy! He enjoys playing with his "babies" (stuffed toys) and taking walks & cruising the perimeter of the block, making sure we are safe. He absolutely adores the beach and the car! He is very social, and he is helping Cino overcome his fear of those big, scary dogs. He also never passes up an opportunity to receive a treat (you get many when you are cute!), and he is a very good boy who eats all his fruits and vegetables. Frank (and Cino) are the typical Dach Security boys; they sit out front and alert us when anyone approaches the home. Frank has been a fantastic fit for our family. He is the most friendly, affectionate, and easygoing dog. He is also a goofball! We are frequently told how handsome and well-behaved he is (they do not see the mischief he gets into at home!). We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful boy. We continue maintaining contact with Frank's OG family, keeping them up to date on the boys' adventures (and trouble). We are very fortunate that our stars aligned, and our timing was right to be able to match up and have the opportunity to adopt him. He was a very lucky boy to have a loving family before us who were only doing what will be an enjoyable senior life for him to live out on our property, and we are very grateful for the love and care DRA has shown and assisted in." Sharni James Cino (& Frankie)
