Wilfred’s Happy Tail: A Perfect Match Found
Wilfred, affectionately known as Wilfie, has found his forever home, and more than that, he’s found his soul mates in Schnitzel, Hamish and Ilias. From the moment he arrived, Wilfie seemed to know he was exactly where he was meant to be. With a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging, he’s made himself right at home alongside his new dachshund brother, Schnitzel.
His new family shared this beautiful update:
“Just a quick note and a few photos to let you know that Wilfie has settled in very well with us. He has received his rescue package from DRA and particularly loves the treats and the toys.”
Wilfie now enjoys daily walks along the stunning Boomerang Beach, sniffing, trotting, and soaking up the sea breeze with Schnitzel by his side. While he’s not a fan of big, boisterous dogs or too many people all at once, he’s learning to navigate the world at his own pace, supported by a family who truly understands him.
Meal times have become a training opportunity too. Wilfie now patiently sits before eating (most of the time!) and is learning to take it slow so he doesn’t upset his tummy. His humans are gently guiding him toward better habits with love and care.
Though he’d love to snuggle in bed with his humans, Wilfie’s affectionate nature, and his generous size mean he gets the whole downstairs to himself at night. But come morning? He’s all tail wags and joyful energy when his family comes down for breakfast.
“He is incredibly affectionate and just loves being right beside us both all the time. we just adore him and thank you very much for connecting him to us.”
Wilfie is slowly building trust, learning that love doesn’t come with conditions, and realising he no longer has to fight for attention. He’s even stopped marking everything (with just the occasional little slip-up inside). Every day, his confidence grows as he settles into the safe, loving rhythm of home life.
It’s clear that Wilfie hasn’t just joined a household—he’s completed a family. His big heart, gentle soul, and ever-present snuggles have found the perfect match in Hamish, Ilias, and little Schnitzel.
Welcome home, Wilfie. You were always meant to be theirs.
Finn (5) brisbane
We welcomed Finn into our family only a few weeks ago and already can't imagine life without him. Our 8 year old boy Frankie is so very happy to have a friend - they spend their days kissing, zooming and wagging their tails in between negotiating which bed they are choosing. We now have double the 'side eye' and 2 stalkers in the house and can't be happier.
Choosing to be part of rehoming is definitely so rewarding and fulfilling. Our cups are all over flowing with love and joy. Thank you so much Abbey at Dachshund Rescue for giving us this opportunity and making the process so smooth whilst keeping it a beautiful process - I recommend this to everyone looking for a new family member, Love Sam, Adam, Ava, Holly, Frankie and Finn
