Franklin (18m) & Bumpy (2) melbourne

Bumpy and Franklin have been re-named Tigger and Piglet. These adorable boys found themselves in need of a new home. Their owner was unable to provide the care and attention they needed. They are now living in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne. Alison there adopter is a wealth of knowledge with dachshunds, having owned multiples over the years. The boys have kept her on her toes, and provided lots of entertainment and company which she missed having a dog in the house. Tigger and Piglet have met loads of wildlife the visiting magpies had them bluffed for awhile. The kookaburras in the nearby trees observing their antics. They have a huge garden to patrol and zoom around, the doggy door was mastered in days. Laura the boys former owner is very appreciative of Alison adopting and loving the boys.

Fuzzy – NSW

This dearest darling boy Fuzzy was rescued from horrendous conditions by the RSPCA who reached out to us to rehome him. We are thrilled to report that 11 year old Fuzzy (now named Alonso) is living his best life ever. He has a new brother Ferdinand 9, a very well behaved therapy dog who has helped Alsono settle in. Alonso has definitely put his past behind him and from the moment he was collected from the RSPCA he has been thriving. He loves going for walks and drives in the car. He follows Ferdi around and they enjoy playing zoomies and chasey around the house. Alsonso has now discovered the luxury of a soft blanket and loves to snuggle in it's comfort. Alsonso is super curious he spends many hours happily sitting at the window and watching people and their dogs walk past. Thank you to his amazing new owners for giving this gorgous boy his new life.

Dash 1, 1/2 & Pippy 1, 3mth Penrith N.S.W

Dash and Pippy have settled in well after a few days of getting used to us and their new world.. and have become a very important part of our family. They have become best friends with next door's ginger cat, that lives here most of the time, and he loves them.. They are totally adorable with their funny cute little ways... They love traveling and have seen kangaroos and emu's and sheep and cattle. From living a quite suburban life they have jumped full into their new life enjoying their new adventures with great enthusiasm. They met our sister and brother in-law recently who also love dachshunds and although they were greeted with a barrage of barking they soon settled down and excepted them as part of the family. Dash and Pippy are two beautiful little people with little hearts of gold, and have bought much joy and happiness into our house...we couldn't imagine not having them here with us. The DRA were very supportive and helpful throughout, with helpful hints and advice. Overall this has been a wonderful experience and one I would recommend to anyone who has room in their homes and heart for these beautiful little dogs. - everyone at DRA are overjoyed for this new little family. thank you xa

Frankie. (now called Fergus)

Rehoming story by Frankie (now called Fergus) by his new owners. "Nearly one year to the day that we rescued Bobby, also a DRA dog, we have now welcomed Fergus into our family. Lets just say it was love at first sight for these two pups! Our two little dachshunds are the greatest of buddieswho bring out the best in eachother. Fergus has shown Bobby how to trust young men, and Bobby is teaching Fergus not to bark at all the outside sounds around him. Fergus enjoys his days playing/snoozing with Bobby, exploring and hiding in the gardens and learning some tricks and commands from his humans. Fergus is also a big fan of car rides, going to big parks and to the beach. He is a cuddly little man with the sweetest, kindest eyes and a happy, waggling tail. Fergus has already stolen our hearts. Twice as much love and happiness! Thanks DRA and Anna for completing our family.

Mylo 4 Years Old – North Qld

Due to his owners change in lifestyle Mylo wasn't being given the attention that he needed. His new owner's daughter who bought Mylo to keep her dad company writes. "Mylo came to live with my dad after the sad passing of his beloved Dachshund Max (also black and tan). Mylo didn't take long to settle into his new home life on the farm and loves being the only 'pet child' of my dad Col. Mylo gets to go to work on the farm with dad - in the airconditioned tractor where he will patiently wait for dad and never leaves his side when out and about. Mylo is described by my dad as a 'velcro' dog and has adapted very easily to his new environment. Thanks so much to Diane and team for assisting our family to adopt Mylo - he is one happy little guy! "

Daisy

My successfully re-homed story is coming very soon

Sadie (4) & Hugo (3) perth

Sadie and Hugo have landed on all 4 paws in there new home. This bonded pair are best mates, we were very fortunate to get a family come forward that had a previous rescue experience with DRA. They now have lots of daily company, socialised and are adored by the family. The added bonus this extended family all help with Hugo and Sadie. Their previous owner was very grateful to see the pair doing so well and settled into their new routine and home. Hugo and Sadie are social butterflies and love getting out exploring and meeting new people in the neighbourhood.

Max: 6yrs 10 mths Melbourne

We feel so fortunate to have welcomed Max into our family, becoming a brother to our Pepper. Earlier this year Pepper lost her adoring sister and wasn’t coping with being an only-dog at home during the day. We submitted an application explaining our situation, and a few weeks later heard from a Dachshund Rescue representative. She said she had a gorgeous red boy in mind and gave us a realistic picture of Max’s challenges. She supported us by answering our many questions and sharing her own experiences with rescue dogs. From there we undertook a meet-and-greet with Max’s parents which gave us an opportunity to understand where we were all coming from and see if it was a potential good fit. All on the same page, we began a trial and quickly found that Max was the bittersweet missing puzzle piece in our home. Pepper has a new pep in her step (as she should) with her new companion, and we are incredibly thankful to Max’s parents for all of the work they did with him prior to making the difficult choice to rehome. While he still has some struggles, he’s adapted well to our routine through patience, consistency, and time. Their loss is truly our gain, and his progress can only be attributed to their hard work. Max’s anxiety and reactivity have reduced significantly since moving to the quieter outer Melbourne suburbs, and we are working together with Max’s existing vet to slowly reduce his medication, aiming for a quiet life without long-term anti-anxiety medication. The work Dachshund Rescue undertakes is noble, and we are so thankful to have found DRA and Max. we are all thrilled for your little family ax

Winston, 2yrs, Bris QLD.

Winston's rehoming story although a little sad at the start, has an amazingly happy ending. Winston must have know that their was someone out there looking for him, and he was just waiting and holding out for that special person to make contact. You see Winston's breeder for some inexplicable reason decided to look at our web site that particular day. She hadnt looked there for a long long time, but something drew her to check it out. And there was Winston, she had actually bred Winston and when she saw that he was in need she immediately made contact with us and opened up her home to him. It must of been fate, as Winston has been a little standoffish with some other dogs, however once he saw his 'mum' everything just fell into place and those two are now like pea's in a pod. Winston now is back in the country, and loving living life on the land with his human family and his birth mum....!
