Ollie, 9yrs, Bris, QLD.
Ollie has been adopted by a couple who updated us with a message that said 'We cant even imagine life without Ollie now'. And to us at DRA we LOVE it when we hear those words said. Ollie is included in daily activities including going on a recent camping expedition. He goes on family outings to the beach and has even had a visit to the doggie groomer which was rewarded with a doggie icecream which he just goes nuts for. He loves going to markets and takes all the pats in his stride....but most of all he loves snuggling up with his new owner Michelle on the couch!
Bean – Perth
Age was never a barrier for 14-year-old Bean to be adopted. His new owner was looking for a companion for her 13-year-old yorkie (her dachshund partner died 6 months ago). They cannot believe their luck that Bean is now their newest family member. He has obviously had a wonderful life until now but sadly could no longer live with his previous family due to changed circumstances. That's where they stepped in. Bean has so much energy and love and fluffiness. He is deaf and blind in one eye. He is loyal and sweet. He is perfect! I can't thank Bean's previous owners enough for entrusting him into our care, they obviously loved him thoroughly. Now, so do we.
Cash 1yr 5mth Boy Gundagai N.S.W
Willow & Cash, both are doing great & settling in well Willow & Cash love to play together every day & Cash does zoomies everyday around the house out to the yard around the yard & back in the house.
they have lots & lots of toys Cash favorites atm is buzz & a cow Willow still loves the squeaky ones & anything that you join in with, we also play ball every other day Willow can't contain her excitement & would play for hours day & night if you would let her Cash plays to
They all dislike the cold and rain ball is the only exception to this otherwise.
They can be stubborn when going out when it's wet & cold not that we can blame them thankfully the weather has been getting nicer, Cash Willow & Rupid all have their very own specialty made for dachshund coats for the cooler weather which helps.
Cash is a very happy cheeky boy he loves to get Willow to run after him steel her toy just to get her to run after him this only works some of the time, but he keeps trying.
Cash is also a big sweetheart he loves snuggles & is always checking on his big brother Rupid and at nighttime Cash won't settle into bed until his checked his big brother is tucked up in bed. we have lots of all together cuddles every day.
Cash's manners behavior & trust is improved dramatically we are still teaching him he seems to think the bin is fair game we still haven't been able to cut his nails but he now let's us touch his feet & even play with them we do this every day & have had great success just not at the nail cutting stage yet but we are hopeful that in time we will get there we have come a long way from when we first got him we couldn't even touch his feet at all everything is going great he brings a smile to our faces & hearts every day we were already blessed to have Willow come into our lives but now we are even more blessed & Willow loves having a play buddy & although Rupid can't match their energy he is a happy boy with a bounce in his step & even a playful bark at times.
Cash is still a little lean but healthy as he is so full of energy & was so under wight & strangled eating it has been a process to get him to put on weight, but he is doing so well it's hard to believe he is the same dog he has come such a long way it brings a such a smile to us & is so heartwarming to see how happy he is he eats well now & in true dashie form food is life & meal time is the high light & most anticipated event of the day he is still a little fussy & unsure with some of his treat but that's ok we know his favorite pretty much everything is Willow favorite lol Rupid to Cash had his operation this week & was a very brave boy the vets & staff said he done very well & was very social at the vets & won some hearts in the process.
Cash has been recovering well at home he was a little sleepy & even more snuggly if that even possible when he came home but seems to be doing well, he has meds & still has stitches that will have to be taken out we have been keeping a close eye on him he seems to be leaving them alone & hasn't had to wear a cone
Hazel- Melbourne
Hazel has now been called Penny. Her new owners fell in love with her from the very start. They have provided the following story about her .
"We are so grateful to have adopted Hazel into our family, since Hazel has entered our family she has brought a spark within our daily life. Hazel gets along with her big brother Woody 11 years old whom we were also so lucky to have adopted from DRA 7 years ago. She has already put her mark on our daily routines it’s all go go go with hazel from helping with housework, outdoor projects, helping prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner is a specialty and keeping all the animals cows, chooks and horse on the farm in line with Woody she is the boss. Woody adores her and has taken her under his wing even though he occasionally rolls his eyes at her antics at times. DRA were and have been absolutely wonderful right through the adoption process with special thank you to Di whom was just so wonderful with the way she handled Hazel's adoption process. Hazel has her forever family and home which we are so privileged."
Harvey (6) central coast nsw
When we adopted Harvey, 6, we were hoping that he would get along with our other dachshund, Lucy, 7. She was not really a fan of other dogs, and we were told Harvey wasn't either.
But we could never have imagined just how bonded they would become in such a short space of time. They are just so similar - both a bit nervous, both obsessed with their Mum and both at their happiest when they are curled up on the couch together.
They are such a pigeon pair - they walk down the street in tandem and will always sit right next to each other. The only time they get a bit miffed with each other is one is getting pats that the other is not.
Thank goodness I have two hands!
Harvey is also wonderful with our other dog, 14-year-old Gemma, who is blind.
Lucy will often steal her treats (rude!) but Harvey is very gentle and loves snuggling up next to her, too. They're not left at home very often but if they are, they provide great comfort for each other, and if they're separated for any reason, they get a bit mopey.
He gets very excited for a walk, but once out and about is still nervous with strangers and strange dogs. He's just as excited to come home and take up his rightful place - on the couch, next to Lucy.
Emma
Lola – Sydney
Beautiful Lola is settling into her new home. She is a very timid little girl who was perhaps bullied by her previous sister. Lola is enjoying the comforts of sleeping inside the home at night and there is no going back to the outside kennel ever. Lola also has a new sister Cali who is helping Lola to overcome her fears and worries. The girls are very sweet with each other and will spend time together exploring the garden and sleeping in the warmth of the sunshine. When Lola is frightend and needs comforting, Cali will go to her and lick her face which surprisingly is just what Lola needs!
